The Avengers comic bundle

COMICS REVIEWS OF THE WEEK / MARVEL’S AVENGERS SPECIAL :

I received a MARVEL comic bundle as VIP gift from getting my ticket
to see Avengers : Age of Ultron via Fandango. The bundle collected
7 issues, one for each Avenger + one for Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch.

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLECAPTAIN AMERICA (2012 – ) #1 – ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

This issue s*cked… I mean seriously, I didn’t like one bit of it & it’s
something coming from me : basically the whole world knows my
unlimited love for Captain America, so if I’m saying this issue
was no good, trust me it ain’t. First of all, Cap has a girlfriend…
let’s be clear on this one, I hate her; plus there’s some silly bad
guy who’s trying to harvest the serum from Captain America’s blood,
the usual, no originality there. Then in the end, Cap ends up with
a baby… lol, WHY MARVEL ?! NO ! NOOOOOOOO !

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLE

SUPERIOR IRON MAN (2014 – ) #1 – ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

I’m not a fan of ego-maniac Iron Man, but this issue was the best one
from the bundle. I’ll resume it in five words : Tony Stark has lost it !
Dude’s gone overboard crazy ! He created some app that makes people
beautiful & if they don’t pay for it, daily, an outrageous price,
they turn back into some monster slash zombie looking folks… Tots mad,
but I liked the idea. There’s also some cool features like She-Hulk and
Daredevil ! The illustrations are also awesome.

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLETHE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLETHE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLE THOR, GOD OF THUNDER #1 – ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

I didn’t understand anything to what the f*ck was going on in
this comic… Thor is drinking, eating, f*cking women like the
excessive guy he is, celebrating some victory. Then we’ve got
some dead God, showing no apparent marks of attack… Then Thor
is being “summoned” by the prayer of some woman, part of a
distant godless civilization… But Thor finds out they used to
have Gods, except they all dead… He gets attacked by a wild dog
& lastly, we see how he became old and insane, wishing for
suicide, until he meets an army of weirdos who apparently are the
ones who are the cause for all this mess… but what mess is that
exactly ? No idea !

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLE HULK (2014 – ) #1 – ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

I’ll be honest, I’m not into the whole Hulk thing. This adaptation of
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein’s monster is maybe too old school for me
to appreciate it like I would for any other superhero… and then
there’s that also, Hulk is not really a superhero, so I’m not usually
on his side. He’s more than potentially dangerous, he’s a real threat
and I don’t like that much. This issue was plain boring, and the
ending is completely idiotic. Doctor Bruce Banner who is the guy
turning into Hulk, gets shot ( ? like that’s even possible) and becomes
irreversibly, dumb… MARVEL you need to stop sometimes. None of
these two things make any sense : Hulk shot and wounded by two
bullets & Bruce Banner who has supposedly one of the most brilliant
minds, goes stupid ? NOOO !

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLE BLACK WIDOW (2014 – ) #1 – ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆

I like Black Widow, I think she’s an interesting character, but I don’t
have much to say about this issue. The illustrations are good, they drew
her very beautifully and I am a total fan of the action, punching, jumping,
kicking scenes ! Besides that, it’s the same type of story they serve us
over and over again, with little hints on her Avengers affiliation and
assassin’s past, and how she gotta make money now to keep some estates;
I don’t even understand why they want to humanize big heroes like the
Widow ? She’s part of The Avengers, she’s like a super-human god figure !
But no, she gotta get jobs and pay rent above all her saving-the-world
missions ? Stop the crack !

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLE HAWKEYE # 1 – ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Hawkeye is like the most normal, down to earth guy from the whole
Avengers clique. Some would say dull, but I think he’s got a lot
of charisma and courage to be fighting amongst all his others
teammates, because some like Thor, are actual God… and he’s just
like the Widow, a human being with no superpower. We can’t even
include Captain America or Iron Man in the human being category,
for obvious reasons. Cap is a superman, and Iron Man’s got his
robot suit making him one as well.

Hulk is no comment, once he’s turned, nobody has any clue what
type of “monster” he is, definitively not human. The fact that
Hawkeye is fighting with a bow and arrow makes him very
sympathetic to me, and I actually really enjoy how MARVEL is
keeping him humanized, with trivial life stuff he’s dealing with,
like all people would… of course, he ain’t resolving his
problems the same, let’s not forget he’s an Avenger after all,
but still. This issue is not the best, but it shows that well.

THE AVENGERS COMIC BUNDLEAVENGERS ORIGINS : QUICKSILVER AND THE SCARLET WITCH #1 – ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆

Lastly; this issue is telling how Quicksilver and his twin sister Scarlet
Witch went from a hobo life pretty much, to being found by Magneto, who is
the super-bad from X-Men, to finally escaping him and joining The Avengers.
What I enjoyed the most in this issue was obviously the illustrations, so
vintage looking, I just love that oldie feeling; I sometimes find myself
wishing they’d still draw like this nowadays, or at least more than for only
one-shot type of comics…

but though, when I see Jim Lee’s talent (notably in Justice League where
his drawings are simply amazing) I totally forget about vintage looks.
The twins life story is an entertaining one, their path from ‘evil to light’
is interesting, and the involvement of the X-Men (even a glimpse of
Spider-Man at some point) makes it even better. I ain’t gonna lie, what I
love reading the most about, is when superheroes or supervillains, team
up together on suicide missions.
